There’s an ancient healing method in front of you right now. In fact, it’s everywhere we look. Every time we gaze upon something, we are using color therapy to harmonize our energy fields. Since we live in a quantum universe, even being near a color or thinking about it imparts its energy. When we use color in an intentional way, we can bring about healing in body-mind-soul. How do we know which colors we need? Simply notice the color(s) that you are attracted to lately. What colors have you been wearing, buying, eating, noticing, admiring, thinking about, etc? Those are the colors you need right now. These will change over time, so be sure to re-evaluate. Use your intuition to ensure you’re selecting colors you feel genuinely attracted to rather than colors you think you should be attracted to. It’s really that simple!
Color has become an invaluable diagnostic tool with my self-healing and in facilitating healings for others. Working with a simple palette of the 7 colors of the rainbow, themes quickly emerge. I may ask a client what colors he has been drawn to lately, and they will invariably match up with information that came through during his healing session. If it wasn’t already apparent in his wardrobe, as the case often is
This is another form of confirmation, and helps determine what is needed to get that person back into vibrant health. Color therapy is super easy to do once you know what color you need: simply surround yourself with that clear and vibrant color.
Here’s how this form of “vibrational medicine” works. *Put your science hat on for 3 seconds total* All matter is energy that vibrates at certain frequencies on the electromagnetic spectrum. *Remove science hat* These frequencies are ruled by natural laws, which mean their inherent symbolic meaning will be the same for everyone. Whether I associate red with love or anger doesn’t matter: I will still receive the innate properties of red when I am exposed to it. Although, I may be more open to receiving that energy if I enjoy the color, and less open if I am not a fan of the color. This ties in with color as a diagnostic tool, since we always attract that which we need/want. For example, I used to like every color but green and orange, which I thought were unattractive. These are associated with the heart and emotional centers: places I know I stored trauma. At this phase in my life, those are my favorite colors, and I know it’s because I am finally ready to achieve balance in those areas.
All animals – including humans – have 7 major energy centers in the body. These are commonly called chakras, and each one corresponds with a color, as well as certain body parts and states of being. (There are other correlations, too, like musical notes, astrological signs, planets in our solar system, soul rays, and the list goes on…) Of all the systems that give symbolic meaning to colors, I find the chakras the most accurate match. Here is my personal take on them.

Red:
Self Survival & Survival of our Lineage (tribal nature)
Security & Safety
Connection with the Earth
Relationships & Community
Sexuality*
*The 2nd chakra is often associated with sex, but my intuition follows Donna Eden’s assertion that “[sex] is basically a root chakra affair.”
Body parts associated with red/base chakra

Orange:
Imagination & Creativity
Playfulness & Innocence
Nurturing & Healing
Emotions
Faith in the Big Picture
Body parts associated with orange/sacral chakra

Yellow:
Identity/Ego
Self-Worth/Honor
Earthly Intelligence/Logic (thoughts entwined with your identity)
Will Power
Body parts associated with yellow/solar plexus chakra

Green:
Self-Love
Love & Compassion for Others
Uniting Spiritual & Physical
Body parts associated with green/heart chakra

Blue:
Communicating Truth
Listening to & Receiving Truth
Body parts associated with blue/throat chakra

Indigo:
Inner Wisdom/Intuition/Vision
Extra Sensory Abilities
Abstract Thought/Processing the Big Picture
Body parts associated with indigo/brow/third eye chakra

Violet:
Spiritual Insight
Connection to the Divine/Oneness
Prophecy
Body parts associated with violet/crown chakra
What about black and white? Black is the total absence of light and color. There is a lot of information that says black is strengthening to the base/red chakra and I agree for the most part. I will use a very deep shade of red, but pitch black feels neutral rather than enlightening to me. Still others say that black is a “negative” or “bad” color, but this thought is based in duality and is not true. White contains all colors, so it is like an energetic multi-vitamin
Since color is all around us, we have an endless amount of ways that we can incorporate color therapy into our lives. Our favorite methods are using colorful healing crystals, wearing clothes in our favorite colors, and meditating on a color. They are all very simple and often don’t require any new purchases, making this a truly free healing technique.

Thank you for the great reminder on the healing and balancing power of color therapy! All matter is indeed energy vibrating at certain frequencies. We are ultimately made of light, so that we can experience the visible world. Just like white light splits in a prism into the 7 colors of the rainbow, as Light Beings our energy pattern splits into the colors of the 7 chakras. We are the prism.
I believe that color meditation can be particularly powerful, because we bathe mentally with the range of colors from within every fiber of our being. That is, we emanate the colors from the inside out. While wearing or surrounding ourselves with certain colors recharges us from the outside in. This happens naturally and almost subconsciously. Color meditation, on the other hand, is a process where we can direct the color frequency in a conscious and very focused manner.
I remember also hearing of direct exposure to the frequencies through colored light bulbs. One could get seven different bulbs and bathe in each light.
Right now, I resonate very much with the color meditation technique you mention. Thank you!

When analyzing a client it can be helpful to make a colorful beaded necklace for them with the colors that they need at that time. Simple bead stands can be an easy way to have them wearing the colors they need without worry of clothing choice for the day. They will know they have on these colors and the energy of those colors will vibrant within them, their minds and their whole being.
OM Shanti Shanti Shanti
